The brief, taken apart
Every layer becomes a line.
Most of a bathroom disappears once it is tiled. We put each layer into the brief, so every proposal has to answer for it.
- Structural slabCarries the load. It is not a waterproof layer.
- Screed laid to fallsA sound, flat base that sheds water towards the drain.
- PrimerControls suction so the membrane bonds.
- Waterproofing membraneThe actual water barrier: two coats, tape at the corners and a collar at the drain. Proven with a flood test before anything covers it.
- Tile adhesiveBonds the tile, combed with a notched trowel.
- Porcelain tile, grout and siliconeThe finish you see. Grout fills the joints; flexible silicone takes up movement at the walls.
